Solar Thermal and Your Brewery

Because of the large quantities of water that must be heated, the production process at a brewery is especially well‐suited to reap the benefits of solar thermal water heating. This is particularly true for facilities that use continuous brewing cycles or daylight hour brewing cycles six or seven days a week.
Thermal energy generated from rooftop solar collectors can be piped directly to a hot liquor tank feed water heat exchanger. This process reduces reliance on conventional heating sources (like steam from the gas boilers), driving down costs. Piping heat directly to hot liquor tank feed water can be done far more efficiently than most traditional uses of solar thermal energy.

Additional hot water can be stored in tanks on site and used for other purposes, such as process heat and bottle, can, and keg sanitization.
