Rising Temperatures Heat Up Solar Industry

The owner of a D.C.-based solar heating company says business always picks up when people have sun on their minds. Zachary Axelrod is CEO of Skyline Innovations, a company based in Northwest, D.C. that owns and installs solar heating systems that use the sun to heat water for showers and laundry.

Skyline to Participate in DC Sustainable Energy Utility

The Sustainable Energy Partnership, led by the Vermont Energy Investment Corporation (VEIC), has been selected by the District Department of the Environment to create and operate the Sustainable Energy Utility (SEU) in Washington, DC. The SEU will help families, businesses, and institutions in the nation’s capital save money and energy, and support local job creation and economic development, by offering programs that spur investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Like Superman, American University Will Get Its Energy from the Sun

April 15th, 2011

Skyline Innovations is providing American University with the largest urban solar hot water system on the east coast.  174 solar thermal energy panels will be installed on four campus buildings by July, providing hot showers to more than 2,000 students living on campus and hot water to the university’s largest dining hall.  The system will pump out 5,700,000 BTUs a day—609 megawatt hours of energy annually.

The George Washington University to House the District’s Largest Source of On-Site Solar Power

October 25th, 2010

Next spring, the George Washington University will be home to the largest source of on-site solar power in the District of Columbia extending the university’s commitment to reduce its carbon footprint. The solar thermal systems will heat water for three GW residence halls and reduce about 70 tons of carbon annually. The installation also will work toward two key goals of the university’s Climate Action Plan: to use the campus as a test-bed for renewable technologies and to generate 10 percent of energy from on-campus renewable sources by 2040.

Skyline Innovations on News Channel 8

July 21st, 2010
As many of you may know Skyline unveiled the District of Columbia’s largest solar thermal power plant yesterday (7/20/2010). What you may not know, is that the event, which was attended by City Council members Jim Graham and Mary Cheh, was covered by a number of press outlets. Our 32 panel installation at 3501 13th street made it into a 3 minute spot on Channel 8′s nightly news. Check out our clip below!

DCs Largest Solar Thermal Project

July 9th, 2010
Last week Skyline started installation of DCs largest individual solar water heating project ever. Completion of this project, scheduled to finish the week of July 19th, will make us the single largest provider of solar thermal energy in the district and the second largest provider of total solar energy in DC period (after Catholic University’s 294 kW PV array). This accomplishment earned us another shout out in Green DC Realty’s blog, Green DC Daily. Solar Powered Assisted Living Center in Southern Pines, NC

June 8th, 2010

Penick Village, an assisted living center in Southern Pines, North Carolina, with a commitment to green development has taken the next step in contributing to environmental sustainability by working with Skyline Innovations to provide residents with solar energy. The community’s latest expansion, the Garden Cottage, which houses living quarters for a number of residents as well as an on-site kitchen and a salon, has been outfitted with solar water heating, financed and managed by Skyline.
