Pfister’s Family Laundry at 1107 Westchester Pike is the first ever solar-powered laundromat in all of Pennsylvania. With our solar retrofit, (which offsets a significant portion of his store’s water heating) Michael has joined an elite group of coin laundry owners whose operations are powered by the sun. Skyline provided Pfister’s Family Laundry with an 8-panel Solene solar water heating system, as well as a 500 gallon hot water storage tank. Installation and plumbing work was done by Alan Rushforth of Rushforth Solar in Philadelphia.
The system reduces the store’s reliance on fossil fuel, and is owned and maintained by Skyline. The laundromat is charged only for the solar energy it consumes, which comes at a guaranteed discount to PECO, Pfister’s existing utility provider.

Monroe Towers in Washington, DC enrolled in the Skyline Solar Water Heating Savings Program, and is actively benefiting from going green. Skyline installed, at no cost to the building owner, 32 4ʼ x 10’ flat plate solar thermal collectors on the buildingʼs roof and 1,600 gallons of hot water storage in the basement to offset the customer’s hot water consumption of 3,000 to 4,000 gallons daily.
Skyline’s solar water heating system provides 70% of the building’s hot water heating needs from clean and renewable solar thermal technology. The customer pays 35% less for hot water from Skyline’s solar water heating system than what their conventional natural gas provider would have charged, saving $3,000 annually on average. Additionally, Skyline remotely monitors system performance and performs diagnostic tests to identify and proactively address maintenance issues before they arise.
